My parents wanted me to enroll immediately as a result of my professor’s vote of confidence, but I chose to delay it thinking I should experience the bedside for a few years. A few years turned into 15."
The graduate of the nursing education concentration is prepared to design, provide, and evaluate educational offerings as nurse faculty for university nursing programs, healthcare settings, community groups, and secondary education health career courses.
As leaders in nursing education, research, and community engagement, our faculty has a collective vision to nurture innovation as we chart our path for the future. Our primary goal is to support you in becoming an integral part of our learning community, to address society’s need for caring, knowledgeable, and scientifically well-prepared, nurse professionals.
In the nursing education concentration, we will prepare you to meet the NLN certification competencies for excellence as a nurse educator. These competencies include striving for excellence as you:
- Facilitate excellence in student learning
- Facilitate learner development and socialization
- Apply assessment and evaluation strategies
- Engage in curriculum design
- Evaluate program outcomes
- Function as a change agent and leader
- Pursue continuous quality improvement
- Engage in scholarship
In applying these skills, we will encourage you to be innovative and evidence-based in your approach to nursing education to support your students in the delivery of high quality, evidence-based nursing care.
Distance Education Students Residing outside of Indiana:
Each of the states has its own approval processes for out-of-state institutions offering distance education. While Indiana State University endeavors to offer all of its programs to as wide an audience as possible, all Indiana State University distance education programs may not be available in all states. Graduate Nursing Programs at Indiana State University are not available to residents of Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, or Wyoming, or International students.
Circumstances such as moving to an unapproved state or deployment of U.S. military or their family members outside the continental United States must be communicated to the appropriate department and will impact progression and/or completion of the degree.
All students must carry their own malpractice insurance and provide Certificate of Insurance prior to beginning clinical courses.
